Attorneys of Chase & Goff
Marty is a 1985 graduate of the University of Toledo College of Law after receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowling Green State University in 1982. He maintained a fast-paced, high-volume solo law practice in Toledo from 1985 to 1991 where he represented hundreds of clients in virtually all legal matters ranging from adoptions to zoning appeals. Marty joined Baran, Piper, Tarkowsky, Fitzgerald & Theis Co., L.P.A., an insurance defense firm, as an associate in August, 1991 and was made a partner in June, 1999. Marty joined Chase, Goff & Bishop on September 1, 2001. Marty’s primary area of practice over the last decade has been as a trial lawyer litigating all sorts of personal injury cases involving persons seriously injured in car accidents, slip, trip and falls, industrial accidents, medical negligence, assault and batteries, products liability, wrongful death, and worker’s compensation. He has extensive practical experience in state and federal claims involving wage and overtime compensation, false arrests, malicious prosecutions, excessive force and other police misconduct/civil rights violations. Marty has litigated cases involving food poisoning, insurance coverage issues, UIM/UM claims, premises liability, negligent hiring/firing, employer intentional torts and other types of injury claims. As a hard-nosed litigator, Marty has handled many cases involving adverse possession, construction disputes, eminent domain, forcible entry and detainer, statute of frauds, foreclosure, bankruptcy, property line disputes and building code and zoning violations. Marty’s 20 years of practice has afforded him a great variety of experience in personal injury, real estate, criminal defense and wills, trusts and estate planning. In that time, Marty has consistently maintained a heavy real estate practice, having participated in over 3000 separate transactions representing national and local lenders (First Union, Bank of America, Mid Am, Huntington and Fifth Third), title companies (Lenders Service Title Agency), relocation companies (Prudential Relocation Management), brokers, agents, developers, buyers and sellers in all matters involving the sale, acquisition and financing of both commercial and residential properties from routine house closings to complex multiple-parcel transactions. Marty has also maintained a heavy “people” practice representing thousands of clients through advertising in the yellow pages and on the Internet to participation as a panel attorney for numerous prepaid legal plans. Felonies, misdemeanors, DUI, and other traffic matters are some of the other areas of law in which Marty brings a wealth of experience to the firm. His knowledge and understanding of the inner workings of the local and surrounding courts makes the client more comfortable and more at ease, whatever the situation might be. In addition to his law practice, Marty is busy raising three children with his lovely wife, Shelley, in Sylvania Township. When he is not practicing law or otherwise engaged in family activities, Marty enjoys golf and attending rock concerts and college and professional sporting events. He volunteers a considerable amount of time to pro bono work through the Toledo Bar Association and is a regular participant in the TV 11 Call for Action Ask the Attorney news program. Marty is also a long time member, and former two-time president, of the Ft. Meigs Sertoma Club, a local service organization that raises money for hearing-impaired children.
